My wife and I had Paul do a remodel for our newly purchased, older home. We hired Paul with Acme Builders after interviewing several contractors. He seemed to have the most suggestions and was most responsive to our thoughts about remodeling. Paul’s suggestions as to how to make the remodel even better for utilizing space, connections for appliances, lighting, etc. were extremely helpful. Our home had a strange layout and needed improvement, especially since there had been amateur additions to the house, including a bathroom and bedroom that required walking through a laundry room to enter. Paul’s company created a new hallway from the dining room to the master bedroom and adjoining bathroom. He knew that I did drafting and worked with me to finalize our drawings and get permits with the City of Oakland. Paul provided us with a spreadsheet for the estimates, which was very comprehensive. The remodel took a number of weeks, however, we were informed of each step along the way and it went very well. We were able to block off part of the house where the work was done, so we were not completely inconvenienced. As it turned out, there had been a lot of substandard work done previously and we were able to correct the defects. Paul had a designer and subcontractors do work on the bathroom remodel, which turned out exceptionally well, especially the tile work. What’s more, the style of the original house was preserved throughout the remodel, so it blends in with the original house, correcting all the shabby work that had been done previously. All told, we were very satisfied with the work and pleased with how the remodeling of our home worked out.

Over the years I consistently come back to hiring Paul to work on my vintage home in Piedmont, California. As always the work is done quickly and the quality is excellent. Paul is extremely knowledgeable about so many aspects of building and renovating and is also very creative . His crew is super polite and a pleasure to work with. Highly recommended !

Paul and the team at Acme did a major remodel of my house including kitchen, adding a deck, and adding one and a half baths. The results are stunning. From the start, they were very professional in preparing a bid and getting down to all the details about what would be required and what the costs would be. Their bid was not the lowest, but it was by far the most detailed which gave me confidence that they could finish the project on budget. When the team came to get started I was also impressed with their professionalism. They work as a great team. The initial demo work was done quickly and when they started framing we were pleased to see that they were very detail oriented in both this phase and in all the subsequent phases of the project. Of course there were challenges in the project including identification of termite damage we needed to repair and repeated delivery of kitchen cabinets with the wrong dimensions from our SF kitchen finishing vendor who shall remain unnamed. In summary, the work done by the Acme team was top notch and we could not be more pleased with the results. I would recommend them very highly for any construction project or especially for remodel of a classic craftsman or other architectural gem of a property.

Paul helped me get my "Fixer" starter home fixed! Great service, honest, straight forward. Used repurposed materials when he could, suggested options to get the best value and always recommended alternatives when cost became a factor. A true craftsman with a great eye for details. You won't come across a better caretaker for you home or project. He even went out of his way to show me ways to keep my home in tip top shape so I wouldn't have to call for services. Now that's a great value!!!

Paul is a true craftsman. He is highly knowledgeable about all aspects of building. He is both honest and trustworthy, two traits that are rare to find in a contractor. I have seen his craftmanship on the job and his attention to detail is impressive. I highly recommend Acme Builders, they do get it right the first time.
